The Government of Catalonia, through the Minister of the Interior Núria Parlon, has activated the offer of assistance in managing the emergency following the serious train accident in Adamuz (Córdoba) that occurred on Sunday.

The Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, used the social network X to confirm that Protecció Civil (Civil Protection) had activated the protocol for offering support, sending condolences to the families of the 39 confirmed fatalities and support to the hundreds of seriously injured.
In the same vein, the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, stated on X that they were closely following the information regarding the collision between the two high-speed trains. The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, also sent a message of encouragement via Instagram, highlighting the dedication of the security and emergency teams in the rescue efforts.

"The accident is tremendously strange; it is on a straight section and is difficult to explain."

Óscar Puente · Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility
The accident occurred at 7:40 p.m. on Sunday in Adamuz (Córdoba). The last three carriages of an Iryo train traveling from Málaga to Madrid derailed and invaded the opposite track, where an Alvia train traveling from Madrid to Huelva was circulating. The collision caused the Alvia to derail, with two carriages falling down a four-meter embankment.
The confirmed death toll stands at 39 passengers, including the Alvia driver, and the number of injured exceeds 135 people. Minister Óscar Puente noted that the accident was severe because the Iryo carriages impacted the front of the Alvia. Authorities are investigating the causes of this “tremendously strange” incident, as the Iryo train was “relatively new” and the track had been renewed in May. A psychological care center has been established in Adamuz to accommodate the victims' families.
