The renewal, which still needs to be signed with Formula One Management (FOM), will ensure that the venue has hosted Grand Prix races for at least 42 seasons. The new contract includes the 2028, 2030, and 2032 seasons, sharing slots with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.
This new rotational system means the Barcelona-Catalunya F1 Grand Prix (new name starting in 2026) will cease to be uninterrupted, as it has been since its inauguration in 1991. Sources familiar with the negotiation indicate that the annual fee paid by Barcelona will be close to 28 million euros, following the fee increase trend imposed by Liberty Media.
“"Negotiations are on the right track, but nothing has been signed."
The initial goal of the Generalitat was to secure a 10-year contract (until 2036) to monetize the 50 million euro investment made in improvement and modernization works at the Circuit during the 2022-2026 period. This new rotational model is established parallel to Madrid's entry into F1, which will host the Spanish GP continuously from 2026 to 2035 (see more details on the Madrid GP).
