The CNL of Barcelona participated last Saturday, October 17th, in the 6th Conference on Teaching Catalan as an Additional Language, held at the Escola Oficial d'Idiomes Barcelona-Drassanes.

The conference, organized by the ICE-UAB Team El català a l'ensenyament and the Society for Teaching and Research of Catalan as a Foreign Language (SERCLE), brought together professionals involved in teaching Catalan to adults and in multilingual contexts. Presentations by the linguistic normalization technicians from CNL Barcelona covered three areas of teaching practice: classroom diversity, oral expression assessment, and the treatment of grammar in language learning.
Pau Villegas presented the research project for the 2025-2026 academic year, Classroom Diversity as an Opportunity for Learning and Linguistic Cohesion. The experience explored strategies for using linguistic, cultural, and social diversity as a pedagogical resource, including the practical proposal Tres, dos, u, s'aixeca el teló! (Three, two, one, the curtain rises!), which involved preparing and performing theatrical scenes through cooperative work in heterogeneous groups.
Pau Serraviñals and Esther Saborido presented When Learners Construct Assessment Criteria: An Experience of Co-creating Rubrics for Oral Expression. This initiative, developed at the Sabadell Linguistic Normalization Center, focused on jointly creating an assessment rubric with students from an Elementary 2 (B1) course. As part of a didactic sequence culminating in a debate on tourism in Barcelona, students participated in defining criteria for planning and evaluating oral contributions, as well as in peer assessment.
In the workshop Grammar in the Classroom: What (and What Not), How, Why, For What, Gemma Pimenta reflected on the role of grammar in teaching Catalan and how to link grammatical structure explanations with language learning and use, discussing cases where explicit grammatical explanations are beneficial and when they can be omitted.
The three contributions facilitated the sharing of classroom work experiences and reflection on different methodological approaches in teaching Catalan as an additional language.
