Art historian Beli Artigas has revealed the first known visual document of architect Antoni Gaudí in motion, a four-second fragment filmed in Barcelona on June 17, 1922.

The fragment, previously unpublished, clearly shows the architect with his characteristic white beard descending stairs on carrer d'Aragó, right in front of the Església de la Concepció in Barcelona. The discovery, of high historical value, was initially disclosed by the Efemèrides d’Arquitectura profile on the social network X.
The film was located thanks to the transfer by the Costa-Artigas family, who contacted Beli Artigas, author of the book Gaudí. Obra completa, upon discovering the family archive material. The authenticity of the images has been confirmed, as the nasal profile, shoulder structure, and other morphological details fully match the few existing static photographs of the architect.

The finding is described as “delirious and surreal” due to the emotion of visualizing, for the first time, Gaudí in motion after years of studying him only through static photographs.

The film corresponds to the wedding of Antoni Costa Font and Carmen Artigas Casas, celebrated on June 17, 1922. Gaudí, who was 69 years old at the time, reportedly attended as a guest, strengthening the ties with the Costa-Artigas family, linked to the Artigas of La Pobla de Lillet, for whom the architect designed the Artigas Gardens.
