Series expert Guillem F. Marí has selected five audiovisual productions that transport the viewer to the vineyards of Burgundy and California, exploring wine as an art form and a metaphor for life.

The fascinating world of wine has been the subject of numerous works of fiction. These recommendations, presented in the biweekly section of the Betevé program B de gust on Wednesday, January 14, include series and films that can be savored from the comfort of the couch.
Highlights include the Franco-Japanese series Drops of God (2023), available on Apple TV, based on a manga that turns wine tasting into an almost mystical duel to inherit a cellar. Also included is the film Sideways (2004), considered the most iconic film about wine, which narrates the journey of two friends through California wineries and popularized the Pinot Noir grape globally.

Wine, in fiction, is elevated to the category of art, capable of telling stories, emotions, and memories better than words.

The selection continues with Our Life in Burgundy (2017) (original title Ce qui nous lie), by director Cédric Klapisch, a melancholic family story about three siblings deciding the future of the family winery in the Burgundy region. Additionally, Bottle Shock (2008), starring the late Alan Rickman, recreates the famous blind tasting in Paris in 1976, where a Californian wine broke the French hegemony.
Finally, a key piece of 1960s Barcelona cinema is recovered: Noche de vino tinto (1967). This film, starring Enrique Irazoqui, portrays a night of walking and conversations through old Barcelona, where wine becomes a state of mind and a symbol of desire and solitude.
