The bus company Hife, based in Tortosa, has added 15 extra expeditions to the routes connecting the Terres de l'Ebre region with Tarragona and Barcelona, responding to the Renfe strike and the rising demand caused by railway instability.

The company has added these 15 services to the 32 that already run daily, bringing the total to 47 expeditions. Hife CEO, José María Chavarría, explained that despite the reinforcement enabled for the Renfe strike, most users had already given up taking the train long ago due to the constant problems experienced by rail transport.

"It is safer. It always ends up arriving on time."

According to Chavarría, the road passenger transport service offered from the Terres de l'Ebre has grown steadily over the last four years. The executive estimates that the number of travelers has "quadrupled" during this period, with annual growth rates of up to 15%, demonstrating the loss of confidence in the train service.
Currently, excluding temporary service reinforcements, 22 expeditions depart for Barcelona and 10 for Tarragona. Chavarría concluded that the bus service, subsidized by the Generalitat, should not be viewed as competition for the train, but rather a necessary complement to ensure people use public transport, especially in an area with few railway stations.
