The Catalan Housing Union Confederation (COSHAC) has urged the Barcelona City Council to immediately suspend all evictions and implement an emergency plan to protect the rights of people residing in settlements across the city.

During a press conference held in Plaça de Sant Jaume, COSHAC, which represents about thirty pro-housing entities, expressed its concern over the increasing number of evictions from settlements in Barcelona. They highlighted a recent eviction that took place last week near the Pont del Treball Digne, in La Sagrera district.

"While we were stopping Txema's eviction on Sant Agustí street, the City Council sent more than 10 riot police vans from the Guàrdia Urbana to La Sagrera to evict 200 people."

Marcel Minoves, a representative from the La Sagrera Housing Union, voiced his concern about an imminent eviction from another settlement located near the old La Sagrera station, on the street of the same name. Approximately seventy people live there and have already been notified of their impending expulsion.

"It is a settlement where there are sick people, animals, and people who cannot move."

The organizations believe that an eviction under these circumstances could violate the Law on Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination. Consequently, they have filed an administrative appeal, requesting a higher hierarchical body to review and revoke the resolution, arguing that the administration has not exhausted the relevant administrative channels.
During the event, Sadio Faye, a former resident of the B9 building in Badalona, shared his experience of helplessness. COSHAC drew a comparison between the policies of the current municipal government of Badalona, led by Xavier García Albiol, and those of Jaume Collboni's government in Barcelona, asserting that there are no significant differences in their actions.

"There is no difference. They are the same classist and racist actions and deserve the absolute rejection of all those who defend human rights."
