This decision follows an investigation that revealed a significant deterioration in the internal functioning of the ACS between 2017 and 2025. The investigation committee's report points to practices contrary to the nature of the IEC's affiliate society, such as actions perceived as exclusionary or coercive, episodes of harassment and pressure, and a loss of pluralism and institutional credibility.
During the plenary session, the withdrawal of the Premi Catalunya de Sociologia, which had been awarded in 2019, was also approved. This measure is based on the modification of the award's rules that the jury made in favor of the laureate's candidacy.
The institute has called for elections to form a provisional board, which will be tasked with drafting a proposal for statutory reform within a maximum period of six months. The report also highlights an instrumentalization of the ACS as a mouthpiece for the interests of a group and a progressive shielding of the board of directors, largely linked to this environment, against criticism and dissent.
