The exhibition, open until February 21, 2027, at the Kunsthalle München, explores the richness and diversity of Catalan Modernism between 1880 and 1914, contextualizing it within the urban, social, and cultural landscape of Barcelona and Catalonia. Through approximately 160 paintings, drawings, sculptures, furniture, and architectural models, the exhibition aims to highlight the artistic influence of Barcelona during that period on international modernism.
Minister Hernández described the exhibition as "an important milestone for the international projection of Catalan culture" and emphasized that it "strengthens cultural ties between Catalonia and Germany," expressing hope for "new collaboration opportunities" among European cultural institutions.
This large-scale exhibition is the first in Germany dedicated to Catalan Modernism and is curated by Franziska Stöhr and Carlos Alonso Pérez-Fajardo. The works are primarily sourced from the National Collection of Catalonia and various Catalan museums, including the MNAC, the Museu Picasso de Barcelona, and Museus de Sitges, among others.
Following its presentation in Munich, the exhibition will be shown in Potsdam from March 20 to June 20, 2027, in cooperation with the Museum Barberini.
