The UAB’s decision, announced following the alert for African Swine Fever (ASF) and the possible presence of wild boars near Bellaterra, affects all activities planned in the campus's natural environment. Suspensions include the Festa Independansa, which was scheduled for Thursday, December 11, as well as field trips, extracurricular leisure, sports, and cultural activities.
In addition to activities, the University has canceled the use of all picnic areas, tables, and grass spaces. The primary goal is twofold: to prevent wild boars from accessing food scraps and to prevent people from becoming involuntary vectors of the virus, which is highly contagious among domestic pigs and boars, although it does not affect humans.
In parallel, the Iberian Village of Cerdanyola announced the temporary closure of the archaeological site for prevention reasons. This resulted in the suspension of the guided tour scheduled for Sunday, December 7. The museum, however, will remain open and can be visited normally.
The UAB has asked the university community to circulate only on paved roads and avoid adjacent forest or agricultural areas. Civil Protection reminds the public that, if a wild boar is located, they should not touch it, immediately call 112 and the campus Security and Surveillance Service, maintain distance, and keep dogs leashed. The presence of Rural Agents and police services is expected this week as part of the surveillance operation.
