Torrential rains recorded in Barcelona and the surrounding Collserola area on September 29th and 30th have generated significant precipitation, with over 100 liters per square meter in the Collserola zone, peaking at 125 liters in Vallvidrera. This intensity has caused landslides and various damages in the city and metropolitan area.
The Collserola Cemetery has been particularly affected by these rains, with several slopes within the grounds experiencing soil movement and erosion due to the large volume of accumulated water and the force of the downpours.
Technical services are currently assessing the damage and defining the necessary actions to restore the affected slopes, replenish soil, and stabilize the terrain. The objective is to return the space to its original condition, ensuring its stability and proper drainage.
The work will be carried out in a planned manner, prioritizing the safety of individuals, graves, and facilities. Once the restoration tasks are complete, general improvements to the affected areas will follow.
This incident highlights the importance of maintaining and properly managing sloped areas within a facility like the Collserola Cemetery, which covers approximately 1.7 million square meters.
