Following the first tender being declared void, the Lleida City Council has initiated a new process to contract the works, which have a budget of 2,598,927.65 euros. This project, also encompassing the basic and executive design, is funded by the Pla únic d’obres i serveis de Catalunya (PUOSC) 2025-2029.
The renovation of this building, recognized for its heritage value and Art Nouveau essence, seeks to adapt it to current requirements for functionality, accessibility, safety, and energy efficiency. It includes restoring original elements, improving connections between interior and exterior spaces, and creating flexible areas for various cultural activities.
The project will cover a built area of 1,070 square meters and 813 square meters of associated outdoor spaces. The ground floor will be designed as a multipurpose area for diverse activities, while the first floor will primarily house a large reading room.
Once renovated, the Cafè Teatre will become a multipurpose center for reading, literary creation, and letters. It will feature a cafeteria service and host activities such as book clubs, book presentations, exhibitions, language exchanges, conferences, debates, and educational programs for schools and local organizations.
In a separate matter, the Local Government Board has dismissed the appeal filed by ERC-AM against the final approval of the urbanization project for Avinguda Víctor Torres. The resolution rejects the request for provisional suspension, although it partially upholds the appeal regarding technical supervision, incorporating a favorable report.
