The Metges de Catalunya union firmly denied reaching an agreement with Vox on January 14, 2026, after participating in a joint press conference at the Parliament of Catalonia regarding the medical statute.
The participation of the Metges de Catalunya union in the press conference organized by Vox generated confusion about a possible political alliance, precisely on the day the medical strike began to demand labor improvements and a specific statute.
“
"In no case is there any agreement with Vox or any other political party to defend our interests. We are an apolitical, Catalan, and Catalanist organization that will be wherever necessary in defense of the interests of our colleagues."
The union's Secretary General, Xavier Lleonart, insisted that their presence was solely due to the defense of professional conditions. The Vox deputy, María García Fuster, who is also a doctor, presented the resolution proposal urging the Spanish government to create the specific medical statute.
“
"The fight is not about political colors. We stand with whoever defends the improvement of conditions. We will always be in defense of doctors."
Despite the controversy, Metges de Catalunya criticized the other political groups in the Parliament for failing to support their demands or, in some cases, positioning themselves clearly against them. Lleonart also warned that the healthcare system is at its limit and accused the current Health Minister, Olga Pané, of “dereliction of duty.”
