From this Friday until Sunday, Park Güell and seven other Modernist buildings in Barcelona are illuminated in blue to welcome the World Capital of Architecture 2026.

The space designed by Antoni Gaudí has joined the special edition of the Llum BCN 2026 Festival of Luminous Arts. For three nights, from six in the afternoon until ten at night, the Sala Hipòstila, the monumental staircase, and the entrance pavilions are bathed in the blue color of Unesco.
This symbolic initiative includes eight World Heritage Sites in Barcelona, such as the Sagrada Família, Casa Vicens, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Palau Güell, Palau de la Música Catalana, and the Recinte Modernista de l’Hospital de Sant Pau.

Putting light, architecture, and landscape into dialogue.

The luminous intervention, integrated into the shared narrative of Llum BCN 2026, coincides with the celebration of the centenary of the opening of Park Güell as a public park, which takes place throughout 2026, a significant year to reflect on Gaudí's legacy.
Barcelona was designated the World Capital of Architecture 2026 last July, a recognition granted by Unesco and the International Union of Architects (UIA). The Capitality program will focus on highlighting the transformative values of architecture as a tool to improve quality of life and address crucial issues such as climate change and social cohesion.
