The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, raised the hypothesis of a possible cyberattack after the Adif traffic management center at Barcelona's Estació de França suffered two consecutive failures this Monday, paralyzing the Rodalies service.

The head of the Transport portfolio made these statements following the breakdowns that interrupted the Rodalies service in Catalonia during the morning. Puente confirmed that two drops had occurred in the control center without apparent cause, noting that, although normal operation had been restored, the possibility of malicious external action was on the table.

"We do not rule out any hypothesis regarding the computer problem at the Adif control center at Estació de França that has cut Rodalies twice this Monday."

Salvador Almenar · Director of the cabinet of presidency, communication, and institutional relations of Adif
For his part, Salvador Almenar, director of the cabinet of presidency, communication, and institutional relations of Adif, detailed to Catalunya Ràdio that the failure occurred in the communication system of the control center. This incident forced trains to stop at stations for safety reasons while the causes of the double interruption were investigated.
Almenar sought to differentiate these cuts from those that occurred last week, which were attributed to the consequences of the storm and direct infrastructure damage. In contrast, the failures this Monday are focused on a computer problem at the traffic management center in Barcelona.
