The Catalan Film Academy celebrates the 18th Gaudí Awards today, Sunday, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, with the films Romería, Sirat, and Sorda leading the nominations.

The gala, which marks the awards' coming of age, will be held at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, featuring a red carpet on the Rambla de Barcelona and 1,800 guests. Judith Colell, president of the Academy, highlighted that this has been a "magnificent" year for Catalan productions.
Up to 29 productions are competing in this edition, which is notable for having a majority of women nominees (52%). The top favorites share 35 nominations: Romería, by Carla Simón, with 13; Sirat, by Oliver Laxe, with 12; and Sorda, by Eva Libertad, with 10.
The most nominated documentary in the history of the awards is Tardes de soledad, by Albert Serra, which has six nominations. Other titles with more than five nominations include Estrany riu, Frontera, La fúria, Esmorza amb mi, and Molt lluny.

"Awards are a bit of nonsense, these ones too."
