Ten sections of the Catalan road network concentrate a large part of serious and fatal truck accidents, according to the latest RACC report corresponding to the 2022-2024 triennium. The study analyzes over six thousand kilometers of interurban roads and confirms that 50% of the most serious accidents involving heavy vehicles occur in only 11.2% of the network, equivalent to 713 kilometers.
The most critical black spot is the eight-kilometer stretch of the N-340 in the Torredembarra variant, which has climbed from fifth position to lead the ranking. In this section, trucks are involved in six out of ten serious accidents, making it the most dangerous point for this type of vehicle.
The AP-7, which concentrates three of the ten most dangerous sections, confirms the extreme logistical pressure it supports, especially since the toll liberalization. The second most dangerous point is the AP-7 between the junction with the C-60 and the Papiol. Other critical points include the C-59 between Mollet del Vallès and Palau-solità i Plegamans, and the Ronda Litoral in Barcelona.
“"Many times it is the connections that cause accidents involving trucks. There are several sections that are not well connected."
Six of the ten identified sections already appeared in the previous report, underscoring the persistence of the risk and the difficulty in correcting black spots. The director of the Servei Català del Trànsit, Ramon Lamiel, noted that poor connections are often the origin of these accidents.
