Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has begun the search for a new Metro General Director after Òscar Playà was appointed CEO of the new Rodalies joint venture this Monday.

The appointment of Playà comes just days after the Barcelona Metro celebrated its centenary with record figures, reaching 480 million validations during 2025, a 2.4% increase over the previous year.

"We still have a few days to appoint a new director of the metro and carry out the transfer as required."

TMB Sources · Company Spokesperson
The President of TMB, Laia Bonet, congratulated the former director and highlighted that his appointment “reaffirms the TMB metro service as a model of success, an example of reliability and public service.”

"The Barcelona metro is one of the services best valued by the general public and especially by users, with high marks, up to 8.02, according to TMB's service evaluation surveys."

Laia Bonet · President of TMB
This positive assessment of the metro contrasts sharply with the current situation of Rodalies (commuter rail), a service that has recently lost passengers, posing a significant challenge for the new CEO, Òscar Playà.
