The majority train drivers' union, SEMAF, maintains the suspension of the Rodalies service for a second consecutive day, demanding a complete network audit and safety guarantees from Adif before resuming circulation.

"They told us that all lines were operational, and hours later we found new landslides and new deficiencies."

Diego Martín · SEMAF Secretary General
The SEMAF Secretary General, Diego Martín, accused Adif of failing to follow adequate safety protocols during track inspections, stating that they were only "informally" told they could resume circulation. The union insists that once the technical report is available, the operator and the drivers must verify that the infrastructure is in proper condition.
Martín extended the complaint beyond Catalonia, asserting that "hundreds of drivers" across Spain report incidents without receiving a response. He regretted that speed limits were only imposed on several sections of the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line after the serious accident involving an Iryo and an Alvia train in Adamuz, Córdoba.

"The problem is that it becomes normalized that, in the end, drivers do not receive answers."

For his part, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, criticized SEMAF's decision and predicted that "rational agreements" would be reached once their "emotional soufflé" subsides. Puente ruled out the possibility of a covert strike, attributing the issue to the drivers' "state of mind" following the deaths of two colleagues in the Córdoba and Gelida accidents.

"If what they are asking for are interventions in the infrastructure or absolute safety guarantees, that is not feasible in a few hours."
