Residents of five buildings on Ronda del Guinardó in Barcelona have been suffering constant and intermittent electricity supply cuts since January 5, causing severe disruptions to their daily lives.

Since the night of the Three Kings, nearly 200 flats in the Baix Guinardó neighborhood have experienced over fifteen days of blackouts, affecting hot water, meals, and heating during a cold spell. Many residents have had to disconnect appliances to prevent damage from continuous voltage drops.

"I wake up at midnight and need to check if we still have light or if it's gone. You never know what to do. The critical time is in the evening, but it's happening at any hour."

One of the main concerns is the impact on elevators in buildings up to nine stories high, where elderly people reside. Maria Magdalena Nin de Cardona, a ninth-floor resident with heart problems, fears for her safety, especially regarding her telecare pendant. Others, like Helena Lamarca's daughter, have had to seek alternative accommodation to avoid climbing stairs on crutches.
Sources from Endesa have acknowledged the incidents since the eve of the Three Kings in the 181 affected homes. Despite replacing the wiring with a “more robust” one, the cuts continue due to melting fuses. The company attributes this problem to “excessive consumption,” the cause of which they are still investigating.
