The Sabadell City Council has launched a pilot project in the Poblenou neighborhood with the installation of a new container model, aiming to improve waste management and its integration into public spaces.

This initiative, representing an investment of 65,654.27 euros, involves the renovation of 64 container units. The Poblenou neighborhood is the first to implement this system, with the Cifuentes neighborhood expected to follow in this initial deployment phase.
The new designs seek to enhance accessibility for all users, reduce visual impact on the street, and simplify their use. The containers are lower, feature a uniform aesthetic, and their openings are positioned at an appropriate height. Additionally, elements like pedals or levers have been eliminated to facilitate handling and improve hygiene.

"We want people to touch the containers as little as possible, because they are an element that is obviously not pleasant to touch."

Another key aspect of the new model is the reduction of noise during opening, closing, and nighttime collection operations, contributing to better neighborhood coexistence. The design has also been conceived to facilitate maintenance and cleaning tasks, thanks to smoother surfaces that prevent dirt accumulation.
The renovation of the containers responds to the need to update an essential element of urban furniture, considered part of the city's image. The council advocates for progressive and tested investment before extending the model to the rest of the city.
