The Ciutat Vella Housing Union had called the protest since early morning on January 7, 2026, to try to stop the execution, but the police presence allowed the eviction of the seven families to proceed.
The affected families have valid rental contracts and are up to date with payments, and there are two fire department reports certifying there is no risk of collapse.
The neighborhood organization denounces that the judicial order is based on a ruling declaring the building in a ruinous state, a claim contradicted by reports from the Barcelona Fire Department. The union believes the property owner's true goal is to force residents out to renovate the building and rent the apartments at higher prices.
Furthermore, activists reported that those affected have suffered real estate harassment for months. They claim the property owner failed to make necessary improvements and even rejected the payment of rents corresponding to the month of December.
