The Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) has refuted the dates provided by Sant Andreu councilor Marta Villanueva regarding the demolition of the old Sagrera freight station, stating that there is no exact day for the start of the works.

Sources from Adif have clarified that, contrary to what was announced, the demolition tasks of the century-old building will not begin on April 8, nor will the main demolition take place on April 13. This information contradicts the statements made by councilor Marta Villanueva, who had detailed these dates to a local media outlet.

"We still don't have an exact day."

The old station, built in 1918 and put into service in 1922 by the Compañía de los Ferrocarriles de Madrid a Zaragoza y Alicante (MZA) under the direction of engineer Eduard Maristany, is not listed despite its age. Its demolition is necessary for the development of the new Sagrera intermodal station and the associated urban project, which includes a large linear park, 10,000 homes (with 40% social housing), offices, hotels, and facilities.
Despite requests from various entities, residents, and political parties to preserve the station, both Adif and the Barcelona City Council have rejected this option. However, the Civil War air-raid shelter, located late last year, will be preserved and integrated into the Sagrera works, with the expectation that it will be open to visitors in the future.
