After weeks of extreme heat, Barcelona is experiencing a drop in night and day temperatures, with lows falling below 20 ºC in the upper parts of the city.

The city of Barcelona has experienced a notable drop in night-time heat, an almost unprecedented event this summer. The arrival of a cold air mass has lowered temperatures, although a summer atmosphere still prevails.
Minimum temperatures recorded until 8 AM have been significantly lower, especially in the upper parts of the city, where temperatures have fallen below 20 ºC. These values are the lowest of August and almost of the entire summer, with only three similar occurrences since June 1st.
Weather forecasts indicate that temperatures will remain stable or slightly below average in the coming days. However, it is reminded that it is still August and summer is still present, although it is slowly losing strength.
Maximum temperatures will also feel this thermal relief, with difficulties in exceeding 30 ºC during the weekend. Sultriness might persist at times, but to find cooler temperatures, one would need to travel towards the Pyrenees, where minimums could drop below 15 ºC and maximums will hover around 20 ºC.
Regarding atmospheric instability, which has caused significant downpours in other areas such as Castellón, Balearic Islands, or central Catalonia, it has not significantly affected Barcelona. Night-time rain has punctually accumulated over 3 liters per square meter, and possible heavy showers are not ruled out for the evening and early morning, as well as more instability next week.
