The Shareholders' General Meeting of Aigües de Barcelona approved the 2025 accounts, marked by a structural water emergency and a triple objective of service, ASG leadership, and territorial transformation.

The Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders of Aigües de Barcelona has approved the accounts and management report for the 2025 financial year. In a context marked by a "complex situation" and a "structural water emergency," the company has managed the year with a triple objective: ensuring service continuity with its usual quality, consolidating its leadership in ASG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria, and driving the social and environmental transformation of the metropolitan area. The results indicate a return to "normality" and the economic sustainability necessary to undertake an "important investment effort" in hydraulic infrastructure and resilience.
The economic impact of Aigües de Barcelona in Catalonia during 2025 was estimated at 866 million euros, representing 0.27% of Catalan GDP. The company generated 1,235 direct jobs, and including indirect and induced jobs, the total figure in Catalonia reached 7,958 positions. This is according to the Report on the Calculation of Integrated Social Value (CVSI), prepared with the consultancy firm Valora. The meeting underscored the territorial impact of the company's activities and its commitment to local and responsible contracting.
Of the total 1,464 suppliers, 96.7% are national and 74.2% are located within the province of Barcelona. The company's financing is based on ASG criteria, defined according to relevant international recommendations. The integrated social value has been achieved thanks to the 1,249 professionals who ensure healthy and safe water for 3 million people across 23 municipalities, and treat water for 40 metropolitan area municipalities.
The new collective bargaining agreement was also approved, resulting from a negotiation process that reflects the shared commitment between the Management and the Social Partners to improve the working conditions of all staff.
In terms of innovation and environmental transformation, Aigües de Barcelona is implementing an investment plan to guarantee water supply and promote greener, more circular cities. Works are underway at the Besòs-Trinitat water treatment plant to reclaim the Rec Comtal, the Estrella plant in Sant Feliu de Llobregat is being updated, and a new ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis treatment line is planned for the Sant Joan Despí plant. The company is focusing on digitalization to minimize environmental impact and foster smarter, more sustainable cities.
In 2025, investment in innovation amounted to 5.8 million euros, driving over 60 initiatives. Notably, the Perte Ressona project, recognized by the Ministry for Ecological Transition, aims to digitally transform the water cycle in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
Regarding environmental preservation, investments reached 59.6 million euros in 2025, a significant increase. These funds are directed towards improving water production and treatment, promoting reclaimed water, optimizing energy use, fostering a circular economy, transitioning to sustainable reagents, biogas production, and naturalizing spaces.
The company's social impact has also been significant: 3.26 million euros were allocated to social contributions, supporting over 250 initiatives with 200 partner organizations and benefiting more than 500,000 people. Furthermore, by the end of 2025, over 68,000 households were enrolled in the social tariff to ensure access to water for vulnerable individuals. The Social Action Plan 2024-2026 aims to improve quality of life, employment, health, and well-being, promoting a green economy and sustainable water use. In 2025, Aigües de Barcelona's social action programs reached over 11,000 vulnerable individuals through 60 initiatives with 46 social entities across 13 municipalities in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
