Airline company Iberojet has inaugurated a new direct route between Barcelona and San Salvador, operated with a weekly flight that enhances the Catalan capital's connectivity with Latin America.

The new connection, operated with an Airbus A350-900, facilitates travel for both leisure and business travelers, establishing a direct link between the two cities for the first time. This initiative is part of the strategic plan by the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (CDRA) to strengthen the city's international connectivity.
Demand for travel between San Salvador and Barcelona has shown significant growth, increasing from approximately 8,000 passengers in 2024 to 11,600 in 2025, according to Sabre data. This boost in connectivity with Central America opens new opportunities for tourism, business, and cultural exchange.
Ties between Barcelona and Catalonia with El Salvador have strengthened in recent years, with a particular focus on commercial cooperation and business internationalization. The significant presence of the Salvadoran community in Catalonia also reinforces social and family bonds, making this new route an opportunity to deepen relationships.
