The Margarida Xirgu center, one of two in l'Hospitalet that had initially joined the plan for school coexistence, has communicated its decision not to continue with the initiative. This information, announced by a parliamentary group in the Parliament, comes after the Government made the program public this week, which had already been implemented in 14 schools and institutes across the country.
Although the Department of Education has not officially confirmed the withdrawal, sources from the majority union in the education sector have also indicated that several centers in Vic would have expressed to the educational inspection their desire not to participate in the pilot plan.
“"The program is voluntary and if no one wants it, it will not be put into practice."
The Minister of Education had previously clarified that the plan had not been imposed on any center and that participation was voluntary. This same week, the president also defended the voluntary nature of the program in the Parliament, assuring that it would not be implemented if there was no interest from the centers.
The plan, which began to be developed at the beginning of the academic year, contemplates the presence of plainclothes and unarmed Mossos d'Esquadra officers, with specific training in coexistence, to carry out mediation tasks and improve the school environment. Their function would be subject to the pedagogical leadership of the centers' management and their entry into classrooms is not foreseen.
