A total of 30,000 people, according to the organizers, and 8,000, according to the Guàrdia Urbana (City Police), participated in the demonstration which started at 12:15 p.m. at the Rafael Casanova monument. The protest was held under the slogan "Enough! Only way, Independence."
The march culminated in Plaça Sant Jaume, where final speeches were delivered. The main goal was to denounce years of disinvestment by the Spanish State in the railway network and claim that independence is the only solution to resolve the Rodalies crisis.
Slogans such as "October 1st, neither oblivion nor forgiveness" and "We will do it again at Urquinaona" were heard during the route. A moment of tension occurred when the protest passed the National Police station on Via Laietana, resulting in loud whistles and the burning of a Spanish flag.
The ANC and the Consell accused user platforms of 'counter-programming' their march, as a second protest was scheduled for the same day in the afternoon.
This mobilization was the first of two protests planned for Saturday in Barcelona regarding the railway crisis. The second demonstration, organized by train user platforms, was scheduled for 5 p.m.
