Former Catalan President Artur Mas confirmed this Wednesday that he turned down a formal proposal from Junts per Catalunya to be the party's candidate for Mayor of Barcelona in May 2027.

Speaking to Catalunya Ràdio, Artur Mas explained that Jordi Turull, the party's general secretary, approached him months ago on behalf of Carles Puigdemont. Mas stated that he is not willing to return to active politics at this time, following a similar refusal from former councillor Quim Forn.
The search for a successor to Xavier Trias has sparked internal debate, especially after reports suggested businessman Tatxo Benet as a potential candidate. Currently, the race is focused on Josep Rius and Jordi Martí Galbis, while the party faces challenging polls in the city.
