Former Catalan President Artur Mas urged Junts leaders, including Jordi Turull and Míriam Nogueras, to join negotiations for the new autonomous financing model during a breakfast event held at the Hotel Palace in Barcelona on January 14, 2026.

Mas acknowledged that the current financing agreement, reached between ERC, PSC, and PSOE, “implies improvements” over the existing regime. He argued that post-convergence politicians should “seize the opportunity” rather than rejecting everything that is not an economic agreement.

"The game must start now, and someone has to play it."

He stressed that achieving the economic agreement (concierto económico) demanded by Carles Puigdemont is “as difficult as the referendum” for self-determination. This statement was made in front of prominent Junts figures during the event organized by Nova Economia Fórum.
Mas suggested key improvements for the negotiation, such as legally guaranteeing the principle of ordinality, taking into account the higher cost of living in Catalonia, and ensuring the Generalitat gains control of the treasury through its own Tax Agency deployment.
