Barcelona City Council has decided to increase the budget and extend the deadline for the aid program aimed at homeowners' associations that ban tourist apartments in their buildings.

Due to high public response, the council has raised the budget from 56,000 to 256,000 euros. This measure, managed through the Municipal Institute of Housing and Rehabilitation of Barcelona (IMHAB), will address demand that has exceeded initial program forecasts by 30%.
The subsidy covers up to 50% of the management costs required to modify community bylaws. Grants can reach 1,500 euros for modifying existing bylaws and up to 2,500 euros for creating new ones, including notary, registry, and professional fees.

"The goal of the aid is to contribute to the elimination of tourist apartments in the city."

Jordi Valls · Deputy Mayor for Economy, Housing, Finance and Tourism
To access these funds, communities must expressly include the prohibition of tourist use in their bylaws, using a clause approved by the Barcelona-Lleida Association of Property Administrators and the Barcelona Urban Property Chamber. Furthermore, the document must be registered in the Property Registry, and the community must be up to date with its tax obligations.
