The Jaume Collboni executive committed on Friday to initiate the necessary steps with ATM and TMB to change the name of the Glòries metro and tram stations to 'Glòries Catalanes'.

The First Deputy Mayor and Mobility Councillor, Laia Bonet, will transfer the proposal, promoted by the ERC group, to the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), responsible for the tram, and Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), for the metro, aiming to adopt the changes simultaneously.

"It is key to guarantee toponymic coherence to avoid confusion."

Republican Councillor Jordi Coronas, who proposed the initiative, considers it an "anomaly" that the stations continue to maintain names imposed by the Franco regime, even though the square recovered its original name of Glòries Catalanes in 1980.
In addition to the toponymic change, Bonet also committed to studying the restoration of a set of 12 historical plaques made of black basalt, designed by the architect Andreu Arriola, which commemorated Catalan historical achievements.
The socialist councillor specified that the plaques are stored in the Can Tunis warehouse and that work has begun to assess their condition and exact location to determine relocation options in the public space.
