The Housing Commissioner of Barcelona City Council, Joan Ramon Riera, has formally requested the owners of the building at Sant Agustí, 14 to cancel the eviction of a resident scheduled for this Wednesday.

The local government has backed the mediation efforts led by the Sindicatura de Greuges (Ombudsman) to resolve the dispute. Riera also welcomed the proposals made by the Sindicat de Llogateres (Tenants Union) to ensure a positive outcome for the neighbor.

"Speculative actions such as those by New Amsterdam Developers are not welcome in the city."

Additionally, Riera called for stricter inspections to enforce price caps on seasonal and room rentals, emphasizing the need to protect tenants' rights against increasing real estate speculation in Barcelona.
