The Commissioner for Children and LGTBI Policies in Barcelona, Javi Rodríguez, has filed an official complaint after being targeted by a wave of homophobic abuse on the social network X.

The harassment began after Javi Rodríguez presented a report to the Barcelona City Council regarding the quality of life of local youth. While some users expressed political disagreement, many others resorted to personal attacks and homophobic slurs, leading the official to seek legal action against the perpetrators.

"Hate is not an opinion, it is an attack on dignity. Barcelona is and will always be a space for freedom and rights."

Jaume Collboni · Mayor of Barcelona
Mayor Jaume Collboni and the Observatory Against LGTBI-phobia have publicly supported the commissioner. They emphasized that freedom of speech does not justify hate speech and insisted that social media platforms must not become zones of impunity for intolerance and discrimination.
