The council has announced the creation of an iconic new play facility in the Nou Barris district, located between Chafarinas, Tamariu, and Palamós streets. This participatory project, driven by the Pla de Barris (Neighborhood Plan), has involved active collaboration from the school's students.
The total investment for the playground construction and surrounding area renovation amounts to approximately 2.5 million euros. It is estimated that over a thousand local children will directly benefit from this new infrastructure. Construction is set to begin next autumn, with completion anticipated around September 2027.
The councilor for the Pla de Barris, Sara Belbeida, highlighted that the project embodies the plan's philosophy: transforming public space by listening to the neighborhood and incorporating children's perspectives in city building. She emphasized that the new space will be accessible, inclusive, and community-oriented.
The intervention area covers about 2,500 square meters, an existing space used for gathering and community activities, adjacent to the Trinitat Nova metro station exit. The new play structure will span 1,040 square meters, and the redevelopment will include increased vegetation, improved accessibility, and shaded cooling zones.
The play area will be divided into three levels, featuring slides, ramps, rope nets, a circular hammock, fireman's pole, and trampolines. The 'turtle' zone will include scalable elements, mesh ramps, and a concave mirror. The turtle's 'head' will be formed by wooden walls, and the base will feature a sandpit, a wooden platform, and a rotating platform.
The idea for the turtle originated from a visit by Mayor Jaume Collboni to the institute in 2024. A group of fifth-grade students proposed improving the neighborhood with a park featuring this figure, and their drawing has served as the basis for the current project, developed two years later.
