The Barcelona City Council has approved the extension of the Travessera de les Corts bike lane, adding almost 500 meters of route and incorporating innovations to improve cyclist safety.

The executive project, which has already received initial approval, plans to extend the existing section from Joan Güell street to Numància. This 485-meter extension will maintain the bidirectional and segregated traffic configuration, located on the sea side of the roadway.
Among the novelties, Advanced Bicycle Zones (bike-box) will be introduced at traffic lights. These zones allow cyclists to position themselves in front of motorized vehicles, increasing their visibility and priority when starting.
Furthermore, in intersections considered conflictive, such as those at Vallespir or Numància streets, a 'red carpet' will be painted on the asphalt. This signaling aims to reinforce cyclist visibility and priority, especially during turning maneuvers.
The new bike lane will be 2.70 meters wide, complemented by a 0.50-meter separation strip from the vehicle traffic lane. To ensure safety, recycled rubber pieces with reflective elements and flexible maroon bollards will be installed. Additionally, 21 new inverted U-type bicycle parking spaces will be added along the route.
The project management falls to BIMSA, with an execution budget of 386,000 euros. Currently, the project is in a public information period until June 1. Once the procedures are completed, it is estimated that the works will last two months.
