Coinciding with the Festa Major, last Tuesday the plaque was unveiled, marking the location of the old kiln and brick factory of Isidre Genevat. Situated at Carrer Pinós, 14, on the facade of businessman Sebastià Llorens's residence, the piece is near the train tracks of the Line of France, thus facilitating the transport of raw materials.
The plaque, designed by Vicenç Viaplana, is round, red, and bears the text "Here was the brick factory of Isidre Genevat" along with the date 1910. This is the first plaque Granollers has dedicated to highlighting the relevance of this industry for its historical development.
Writer Josep Cassart recalled that, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Granollers had around 20 brick factories, many of them located in the area now occupied by the railway line to France. He highlighted the presence of an "excellent raw material, Clay", which brickmakers often kneaded with their feet to obtain mud.
Paco Cruz, co-author of the book "L’Ofici de Rajoler" (2010) with Pere Cornellas, asked the City Council to consider marking all the old sites of these kilns and factories to create a historical route.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the mayor of Granollers, Alba Barnusell, the culture councillor, Vanesa Jiménez, and the 'caps de colla' of Blancs and Blaus, Albert Mallol and Irene Galán.
