The Barcelona City Council launched a high-impact awareness campaign this Saturday aimed at both locals and tourists to ensure respect for public spaces and neighborhood rest.

Under the slogan Shame on you, the city has deployed posters and digital ads in Catalan, Spanish, and English. The initiative targets common issues such as public urination, illegal street drinking (botellón), and improper waste disposal. This move follows the approval of a stricter Civility Ordinance last year, which increased penalties for such offenses.
During the first week of the new regulations, the Guàrdia Urbana issued 982 fines. Statistics show that 36% of these were for alcohol consumption in public, while 20% were for public urination. To improve enforcement, officers are now equipped with card machines to collect fines immediately from tourists on the spot.
The municipal government has also reached agreements with the Generalitat and the central government to pursue the bank accounts of offenders living outside Barcelona, ensuring that anti-social behavior carries real financial consequences.
