This initiative, located between Entença and Rocafort streets, will transform the current playground into a refreshing zone, with an investment of 220,000 euros. The 42-square-meter space is designed as an accessible and family-friendly refuge to address the climate crisis.
The new "water park" will feature various games such as fountains and sprinklers, designed for children of different ages. Safety is a priority in its design, with non-slip concrete paving, a slight slope, and a central drainage system to prevent water accumulation. It has also been adapted for people with functional diversity.
Despite the refreshing offerings, the city council has set limits on water usage. The facilities will operate from June to September and will be activated by a button, unlike other city fountains. Water consumption will be capped at a maximum of 10 cubic meters per day, balancing the need for cooling with responsible resource management.
The project, with a total investment of 220,000 euros, is part of the expansion of the climate refuge network in the Catalan capital. The City Council anticipates having eight such spaces this summer and 230 across the city by the end of the year, with the goal that every resident has a water play area within 5 to 10 minutes of their home.
