Barcelona Metro lines L1 and L5, which serve the highest number of passengers, will increase their frequency during morning peak hours starting Tuesday, April 7, with the addition of an extra train to each line.

This measure, implemented between 7:00 AM and 9:30 AM, aims to optimize service during periods of highest demand. The incorporation of these two additional trains will reduce waiting times at stations, enhancing the user experience.
Following the Easter holiday period, the weekday service interval will be set at 2 minutes and 24 seconds for Line 5 (blue) and 3 minutes for Line 1 (red) during peak hours, as reported by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB).

"The Rodalies crisis has further increased passenger numbers at specific points in the network. The efficiency of the Barcelona Metro makes it an increasingly used public transport option."

Laia Bonet · President of TMB
With this enhancement, Line 5 will operate with a total of 35 trains in circulation, while Line 1 will run 38 trains. It is worth noting that L1 trains, with an older Iberian gauge (1,674 mm), have a higher capacity, capable of accommodating up to 10% more passengers than trains on the rest of the network, which use the standard gauge (1,435 mm).
