The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, announced that the city council will meet with the Spanish Government delegation next Monday to expedite the regularization of 24,000 migrants in the city.

This initial figure of 24,000 people represents a minimum, as it primarily includes migrants who have already had previous contact with the social services of the Barcelona City Council. The measure stems from the recent agreement between the Government of Pedro Sánchez and Podemos for a new decree law.

"It is magnificent news for Barcelona. We want to dignify living conditions and cover job positions that cannot find workers."

Collboni insisted that the city council's experience in similar processes can be key to accelerating the procedure and ensuring that the measure “reaches the maximum number of people who require it” efficiently.
Shortly before the plenary session in January, the mayor met with the delegate of the Spanish Government in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, to establish the line of collaboration. The City Council will attend the meetings that the central executive convenes with the Generalitat.
