The Governing Board of the Barcelona Provincial Council approved in March the allocation of a 300,000 euro fund to strengthen local policies for the prevention of gender-based violence in 262 municipalities.

This resource, named 'Update in the field of gender-based violence prevention', primarily aims to reinforce structural prevention strategies, especially in municipalities with up to 20,000 inhabitants. The initiative covers 85% of the municipalities within the demarcation.
Beneficiary municipalities will be able to use this provision during 2026 to carry out various actions. These include awareness and community prevention campaigns aimed at specific groups, municipal agents, and the general public. The creation or acquisition of communication materials and the training of prevention agents and local entities are also planned.
Furthermore, the funds will promote the revitalization of Purple Points and the hiring of preventive agents in public spaces and facilities. Sectoral actions in areas such as sports, education, culture, health, or tourism will be financed, as well as the development of protocols, circuits, and programs linked to the structural prevention of gender-based violence.
This resource is part of the Program for Small Municipalities, which began in 2025 with the aim of promoting feminist and equality policies tailored to each territory. The program offers economic support, training, and technical assistance, with the goal of ensuring social and territorial equity in access to equality policies and addressing gender-based and LGTBI+ violence.

"This resource has been consolidated since 2024 and responds to a real and growing demand for support for the prevention of gender-based violence, in addition to reinforcing the strategic role of the Barcelona Provincial Council as a support for local feminist policies."
