The Barcelona City Council formalized its bid to host the headquarters of the State Agency for Public Health, proposing the Ramon Llull building in the Escola Industrial, competing with cities like Granada and Zaragoza.

The agreement with the Diputació de Barcelona, owner of the space, allows the city to offer the Ramon Llull building, which provides about 8,000 square meters, double the required size. The Generalitat de Catalunya has also expressed its support for the initiative promoted by Mayor Jaume Collboni's government.

"It will contribute to the social and territorial cohesion of the State, helping to structure a diverse state through the decentralization of general public entities and services, enhancing network collaboration."

Barcelona City Government · Candidacy Argument
The AESP will require a minimum space of 4,000 square meters to accommodate a staff of 300 workers, including personnel from the Center for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies and the National Center for Epidemiology. Among the strengths of Barcelona's proposal is its proximity to Estació de Sants, ensuring excellent connectivity to the airport and high-speed rail.
The main weakness identified is the high cost of housing in the Catalan capital, although the council defends the existence of a "sufficient and competitive real estate offer." Regarding the Ramon Llull building, it is expected that, with minimal intervention, the first 500 square meters could be enabled during the second half of the year.
