The event, named Global Progressive Mobilisation (GPM), is an initiative by the Spanish Government President and Socialist International leader, Pedro Sánchez. It seeks to bring together various progressive sensibilities from all five continents. The meeting will take place at Fira de Barcelona, and a 'historic mobilization' is anticipated in response to the growing far-right wave.
This summit, organized with the involvement of the PSOE leadership, will gather international leaders, political parties, trade unions, foundations, and NGOs. Confirmed participants include Lithuania's Prime Minister, Inga Ruginiené, and the United Kingdom's Deputy Prime Minister, David Lammy. Also expected is the presence of Filipino journalist María Ressa, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2021.
The list of speakers includes presidents such as Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Brazil), Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa), Yamandú Orsi (Uruguay), and Gustavo Petro (Colombia). From European institutions, the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Teresa Ribera, will attend. Other prominent figures include Stefan Löfven, President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), and Rahul Gandhi, opposition leader in India.

Among the Spanish representatives, former President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the First Vice President of the Government, Carlos Cuerpo, and several ministers are expected to participate. The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, will also be present, with Collboni acting as one of the event's hosts. The Mayor of Barcelona emphasizes the importance of major capitals as focal points of resistance against the global far-right wave.
