The Barcelona City Council has launched a new scheme providing 600-euro grants starting in March 2026 for residents who scrap combustion mopeds in favor of new electric models.

Mayor Jaume Collboni announced the 15 million euro investment, which aims to replace 20,000 vehicles over the next four years. The plan specifically targets young drivers and local businesses to help them transition to sustainable urban mobility.

"Barcelona is a biker city and a benchmark in urban electrification, both in Spain and in Europe."

Part of the city's Climate Plan, the initiative seeks to eliminate the 3,000 tons of CO2 produced annually by the 24,000 petrol mopeds currently in circulation. The goal is to achieve a 100% electric moped fleet by 2030.
