The urban intervention, following the line of other recent city projects, involves creating a central axis for pedestrians and cyclists, while the sides will be reserved for private traffic and public transport. This remodeling is part of the urban development of the Marina area, a sector that has seen significant growth with 1,500 new homes built and projections for thousands of new residents in the coming decade.
As explained by the mayor of Barcelona, the main goal is to foster social cohesion by creating squares and meeting spaces that connect the Marina del Port and Marina del Prat Vermell neighborhoods. The executive project already has the necessary funding within the Neighborhood Plan, which provides for a total investment of nine million euros over the next two years.
In addition to the promenade's transformation, the plan includes measures to improve connectivity with the city center, such as the expansion of the ronda Litoral in the section between the Zona Franca and the Port of Barcelona. Furthermore, the public transport network will be strengthened with the implementation of new bus lines to facilitate resident travel before the end of the year.
