The most significant fire broke out at 4:57 a.m. at a landfill in Granollers, near the C-35 road. The land breeze helped the black smoke plume move rapidly through the Congost and Besòs valleys, reaching the Catalan capital.
The Fire Department is maintaining a deployment of 12 units to contain the pile of burning waste and scrap metal. Civil Protection has activated the Procicat plan pre-alert and recommends confinement in areas affected by the smoke.
Meanwhile, the forest fire declared on July 3rd in Les Gavarres, in the Baix Empordà region, remains active with approximately 2,200 hectares affected. Although extinction efforts are progressing favorably, the smoke from this fire is primarily heading towards the Balearic Islands.
