Barcelona City Council and the Metropolitan Transport Authority have formalized the agreement to execute the second phase of the tram network, which will link Verdaguer with Francesc Macià.

This institutional step is the necessary prerequisite to begin the tendering of the works, scheduled for after the summer. The project aims to unify the Trambaix and Trambesòs along Diagonal Avenue, an action included in the Infrastructure Master Plan.
The city council will take on the redevelopment of the road between Passeig de Sant Joan and Sarrià Avenue, as well as the expansion of the collector between Girona and Calvet streets, with an investment of 99 million euros. Meanwhile, the ATM will be responsible for the tram infrastructure, the expansion of the depots, and the adaptation of the fleet to eliminate overhead wires, with an expenditure of 97 million euros.
The works will last for 40 months. Once the 2.2-kilometer section is completed, it is expected to reach 62 million annual trips and reduce traffic by about 12,500 vehicles per day. The journey between Glòries and Francesc Macià will take about 15 minutes, incorporating three new stops: Diagonal-Cinc d'Oros, Balmes, and Casanova.
