More than 9,000 members and supporters of Barcelona en Comú are voting online this week in Barcelona to select their candidate for the 2027 local elections.

The internal election features two distinct paths for the party. Gerardo Pisarello, a current Member of Parliament and former deputy mayor under Ada Colau, represents the institutional establishment. He is challenged by writer Bob Pop, who advocates for a return to grassroots activism and criticizes the current leadership's lack of political ambition.

"These primaries are one of those rare occasions in life when we have the possibility to truly change things, to choose the course."

The voting process concludes this Thursday, with provisional results expected on Friday, February 20. This marks the first time the party has held primaries to choose a candidate while serving in the opposition against Mayor Jaume Collboni.
