The Cultural and Sports Association of Barcelona Firefighters has launched a project that reuses disused fire hoses to create accessories, with funds dedicated to forest fire prevention, in collaboration with the canine unit of the Generalitat Firefighters.

The Bombers Solidaris initiative, originating from the Cultural and Sports Association (ACE) of Barcelona Firefighters, has established a unique collaboration with the canine unit of the GRAE group of the Generalitat Firefighters. Through the #màneguespelclima project, disused fire hoses are artisanally transformed into collars for the unit's operational dogs.
This action not only provides a new purpose for materials that are part of emergency equipment but also raises funds. These resources are allocated to the Ramats de Foc project, promoted by the Pau Costa Foundation, which includes shepherds from Pallars Jussà and Noguera. Their work involves encouraging the presence of flocks in strategic areas to reduce the risk of forest fires in the undergrowth.

"The collaboration symbolizes the spirit of the project, which is based on reusing, reducing waste, and converting tools linked to emergencies into functional, sustainable items 'charged with social and emotional value.'"

Bombers Solidaris has emphasized that this initiative promotes concrete actions against the climate emergency and fosters a circular economy. In addition to collars for dogs, goats, horses, or donkeys, keychains and belts are also made by a leather artisan in the city of Barcelona. These items are distributed through fire stations across Catalonia.
The project also aims to promote social aspects such as preventing depopulation in rural areas, fostering at-risk trades like shepherding and leatherworking, and supporting the rural and local economy. The entity, founded in 2016, has carried out various solidarity projects in areas such as childhood, health, international cooperation, and social emergencies.
